That dream career you have? That perfect job? That long-term plan? Tell me how you're going to get there. Give me as much detail as possible. Explain the way the different parts of your master plan work to get to the results you want.
If you know how things will happen, if you know what you have to do, if you know how the pieces of your career come together, you can make them happen. You know why things work and what is needed. You know when you take detours – and what to do (or if to continue).
How is powerful. If you have a "HOW" then you can make things happen.
So, do you have a how for your progeek, profan, and protaku dreams?
Here's a quick way to find out:
- List a timeline of your future plans, goals, and dreams and what order they happen in.
- In that timeline list what and when you'll do things to make them happen.
- With this timeline done, can you see a believable progress you can make happen? Is there a logical sense of progress from one point to another?
If you have enough how, congrats. Keep at it.
If not, then perhaps it's time to go over your plans in more detail, do your research, and look over your goals. If you can't fit things together, if you can't explain HOW you're going to get from point A to point B in your career, then there's much less chance you're going to get there.
Always check for how.
