Unemployed? Try Volunteering at a Con

When I was unemployed, my worst enemy was time. It was tough to shift from my identity as a constantly multitasking graduate student to suddenly being a part-time minimum wage cashier living with my parents. I suddenly had hours of free time, which you’d think would be a blessing. But a lack of routine just made me lazy and depressed.
 
I needed to find something to bring structure and purpose back to my life, and fast.

Profandom And Healthy Competition?

You go to cons and there is a cosplay competition.

Online there's art competitions.

Wargaming conventions have endless battles.

Fandom, for all its friendly nature, likes a good bit of competition.  it's fun, it's challenging, it's exciting, it gets people going.

So I've been speculating – could this friendly competition be used towards the cause of progeekery?  Could we channel friendly fannish compettion to help people in their careers?
