Culture:

Hackers of the renaissance. The hacker ideal is older than we’d expect. OK, actually the hacker ethic got named later, but you get the idea. Filled with amusing information.

Technology:

Samsung to introduce a watch-phone. Dick Tracy jokes aside this is kind of interesting. I think the smartwatch idea is probably a wash, but as a phone replacement/integration I can see some possibility and I have faith in Samsung.

Patch starts its layoffs. No one is surprised.

The Age of the Dark Knight of Steel: Getting More Cynical About Comics Adaptions

It’s no secret that I’m one of the people here at MuseHack who is expecting a Hollywood meltdown to happen (or the current one to get worse). There’s too much going on, too much going wrong, too many checklists trying to save the cat, and 2015 is loaded with Blockbusters. It’s a collision course with reality, and I’m expecting some pain.

Now that being said, I’ve also found some of the current releases quite good. I enjoyed “The Avengers” even if it was rather standard. I do need to see “Man of Steel” because Serdar, ever holding high standards, was impressed. But looking at the latest announcements, something has upped my cynicism levels even further.

Big Name Adaptions within existing properties, specifically, comics.

Another day with lots of links . . . think this may be a regular feature!

Technology:

Javascript on hardware? This could leverage all that web skill somewhere else. I’ve seen JavaScript pop up places I haven’t expected.
Cisco lays of 4000 employees. Stock drops. Double ouch. People don’t expect this from Cisco (and job cuts aren’t guaranteed to boost stock prices).
Jailbreaking the internet. The names involved may surprise you.

Career:

Someone’s not happy about LinkedIn.

Media:

“Strained Pulp” – that arty attempt to be pulp, analyzed. There’s a lot here to analyze about our culture, about retro/referential/remake/genre homages.

Comics:

“Archie” changes plotline due to Russia’s anti-LGBT policies. The Archie line is really shaking it up with real life issues.

Events:

Video Games:

Former Steam Bigwig works at Microsoft gaming. I am not surprised. What will happen may be surprising. Also may encourage Steam to up its game.
