American Politics: Beasts, Ghosts, and Demons

Awhile ago I posted on how the famous six realms of Tibetian Buddhism could also indicate psychological states, and how that made me rethink my late dog’s life. I’d like to focus more on those six realms, and what they mean for American politics.

To review, the six realms one can be incarnated in (or that one can experience, if your take the psychological viewpoint) are:

  • Gods (Devas) – A realm of pleasure, but the pleasure distances one, and even gods die.  Think of this as pleasurable and peak experiences.
  • Asuras – A realm of ambition and striving godlike beings, who suffer paranoia and envy.  Think of this as a state of “drive.”
  • Humans – Our realm, a real of desire, doubt, and some confusion but also balance so we may achieve Enlightenment, and where we may develop important compassion that lets us do so.
  • Animals – The realm of instinct, ignorance carnality – and fear and opposition to change.  Think of this as functioning in basic fear-response.
  • Hungry Ghosts – The realm of mournful, craving spirits.  Think of this as being in a state of addiction and sheer need.
  • Hell Realm – The realm of anger, hate, and fear.  Think of this as being in a state of terror and rage.

You can see how these realms can easily represent different human sates from peak experiences to unbridled rage, with honest humanity in the middle. Now let’s turn to American politics using this psychological model.

Site Update!

So what have I been up to?

Well, you saw about the speaking – I’m back on speaking outside of the convention circuit.  I’ll also be fleshing out some new “multi-use” presentations for people.  So if you need a speaker, let me know!

The new resume book is still in the works as I got some helpful – and accidental – feedback that was really insightful. So I want to take time to incorporate the feedback and do some more tests.  So it probably won’t be out for about two more weeks.  After that another project begins – and yes, I need to get plans for the next Focused Fandom book.

Fan To Pro’s upcoming improvements are almost designed.  You should see some new stuff in May or at the latest very early June.

Seventh Sanctum appears to be stable and people are digging the new comments (which is really just Disqus, so props to them).  The redesign is scheduled to start sometime this summer, probably in Bootstrap, which looks to be fun to develop in.  I will probably multistage the development to add feature after feature as I see what is needed and what can be done.  My big focus is to make it more utility-like and functional across devices.

As noted I hope to do some podcasts and vlogs again, but with busy times I’m holding back for awhile to get other things out of the way.

Whew, Back At Speaking

Well if you’re looking for a speaker on careers, creativity, or geekery (or preferably all three) I’m back at it, folks!

With my presentation on Quest For Employment at PMI Silicon Valley, I’m officially returning to doing speaking beyond conventions.  I had to take a break with all the crazy, and to get some new material together.  So remember if you need a speaker – in person or online via Skype, etc., let me know!
