Business:

• Success can create a destructive culture of arrogance.  OK it sounds obvious, but really, worth a read.

Comics:

• Archie, the most enlightened publisher in comics.  Really, it’s worth reading.

Economics:

• Those megadams?  They basically can’t provide a return on investment.
• Nigera will be the source of the African Amazon?  I’d agree, that’s a dynamic country.
• China’s corporate debt may be a time bomb.  Pay attention to China – Quartz is kinda obsessed with it . . .
• The world’s youngest billionaire . . . is a tax dodge.  You really have to wonder how much of this is going on.

Education:

• McGraw hill to get into educational software.  Might be some opportunities here – and a trend?

Film:

• The Oscars was great for independent film.
• A new movie studio – with a bigger focus on China – is coming.
• Four Marvel Movies a year?  You know at that point make a miniseries.

Writing:

• Lifeboat rules and moral hazard – a brilliant look at how SF stories can be so contrived as to be dangerous tools for human behavior.

Culture:

• Are model railways a form of fanfic and cosplay?  Really.  Think about it.
• Consumer or consumed? The focus is on economic news, but really, this is about anything viying for your attention!

Economics:

• Americans are turning to Dollar Stores.  Depressing, not surprising, and a sign of how bad the economy has been for some time.
• If you stop promoting from within, eventually you can’t.  A problem with work, hiring, and promotions that reveals some interesting flaws.

Education and Development:

• Ubisoft has a graduate program.  You know what to do.
• Want to learn to code?  Which language is right for you?

Food:

• MRE Pizza – The confluence of pizza, technology, and military innovation.

Meida:

• The MPAA may have given outsourced effects house a weapon to fight back with.  Really can’t be described simply, read it – as this could affect many things.

Technology:

• Less than 40% of web traffic is from people.  Not surprised when you consider how much out there is “pipes and flows” and automation.
• Hasbro has an ally in 3D printing.  Toys, 3d printing, and more – must read.
• OK, not sure on this (unless it’s driven by Google envy), but Apple may buy Tesla motors.  That would also be one weird Silicon Valley fusion.
• Apple also is hiring to work on its smartwatch.
• Samsung is doing a smartwatch – but it’s using another Linux variant called Tizen, not android.  Might want to get familiar with it . . .
• Banks have a problem . . . they’re relying on Windows XP.  Sounds like some career opportunities for migration?

Video Games:

• Nintendo founding family selling shares – That’s not a vote of confidence for Nintendo.  Adjust your career plans accordingly.
• More EA Layoffs – OK, no surprise there, but still, adjust your plans accordingly.

Writing and Publishing:

• Simon & Shuster has a new SF/Fantasy Imprint.  You know what to do.
• Sony leaves the eBook Market.  At this rate there’s going to be more “not” than “does” for the company.
• Loose your job writing a series, write fanfic.  Here’s an interesting side effect of Kindle Worlds.
• Amazon – good for readers, bad for books?
• Crowdsourcing a romance story contest.
• The Kobo is doing well.  Indies may be part of it.
