Seventh Sanctum Update 11/5/2013

Sorry for a bit of a delay here folks, got a bit under the weather and had a convention to go to.  Not an ideal combination, but had a blast – and got to meet some Sanctum-users there.

So first of all, I did some updates to the Seventh Sanctum test site, Page of Generators.  I’d like you to try it again to make sure the updates work.

And after that?  A launch this month.  Quite looking forward to it.

Still having talks about how to do community building, but a lot of the “old gang” are busy right now.  But it’s not forgotten.  I’m always open to suggestions of course – the more I think of it, the Disqus links really do have their limits.  I may think this over during the holidays when I have some spare time – and yeah, I’m taking some time off.

Redoing the site has given me new generator ideas and I think it’s time to get some out after I got the site updated.  Actually the modification of the site has let me really re-examine some of my code so I think I’ll have an easier time of implementing things.  Lately a lot of my ideas have been about concept/fusion generators.

Was wondering if anyone has ideas about building a challenge community.  Yes I know they’d like the contests back, but also I want to think about writers.

OK, so back at it, I’ve got some work to-do, so check the beta and let me know!

Steve’s update 11/4/2013

Well, where to begin.  It was a crazy week – and getting sick didn’t help.

Then I had to haul to Con-Volution for four events.  It was a little tough, but I made it, and had a blast.  The con’s a second-year convention that is run by a lot of experienced fen and is really focused on delivering – plenty of smart panels, practical ideas, and things people really would enjoy.  Met plenty of great folks and really networked.  There was a great consuite and a green room – really social, real service, free food, and everyone nice.  I’m definitely doing it again next year!

Troubleshot a few minor issues in the new Seventh Sanctum, so I just need to determine a launch time before Thanksgiving, configure a few things, and we’re good to go.  I just want time to watch it to make sure it’s running OK.

I’ve also fallen madly in love with Bootstrap.  I’m thinking of moving MuseHack to it so if you know a good bootstrap-related Word Press theme . . .

The new book has gone to the editors until end of month so I can take a bit of a break on that.  I was getting a bit tired frankly and need the rest.  Still targeting February 2014.  However I want to shift my publishing work so major books hit in November from now on.

Soon I’ll be planning for 2014.  We’ll see where that goes . . .

Steve’s Update 10/28/201

Hello all, hope you’re doing well!

The next book is now more or less being edited.  I need to coordinate a few things, but I’m getting feedback and hope to have a “deep edit job” started soon.  I also saw the mockup for the cover, and the artist has done a brilliant job – the cover will be very fun, just let me leave it at that.  I’ll try to get more out soon – as I said, there’s a reason for the surprise.

Seventh Sanctum’s beta testing seems to be done.  Except for one flaw in a display that was easily corrected (forgot a “</div>” tag, seriously) , I can’t really find any problems so I just need to schedule the launch.  For those of you asking, yes, the “Random” option will be in the final version –  it was left out of the test as it’s got some specific setups that are just easy to put on the main site.  After this I’ll probably take a break – but I do want to get some community built.

My next book is likely to be on geek community building, charities, and culture.  Still fleshing the idea out – but I am going to be interviewing some people in those areas, so send me your suggestions.  I figure a larger culture exploration will be welcome and I could use a bit of a change of pace – though I also have some smaller career works brewing.

Got my usual convention speaking coming up – be sure to check the schedule.  Some of my usual schedule per year may change as well – I’m lookign to try a few new conventions and travel a bit more.

MuseHack is going well and I’ve think I’ve got a good rythm going.  Beyond my “Geek As Citizen” Column and my interviews I plan to do more focused career stuff, and more “Make It So” since those are plain fun.  I’m especially enjoying the interviews and plan to keep those going.  As always, I do want to add more people – though with NaNoWriMo coming up it seems everyone is busy.

That’s it for now!
