Resume Plus Is Out!

Happy Daylight Savings Time everyone.  I hope you’re doing well, and are prepared to have Christmas even further shoved down your throats advertising wise.

The big news is my NEW book Resume Plus is OUT.  This is my guide to jazzing up resumes using everything I learned from my coaching, career, and my series 50 Shades Of Resume.  It’s a collection of tips, each leading naturally to the others, to help you make a resume more interesting – while determining just how crazy you want to get.  It pairs well with Epic Resume Go!, and is sort of a sequel.

So, go on, take a look, let me know what you think!

I also enrolled in KDP Select, so we’ll see what that does for promoting the book and sharing it.

New Book Project – Sailor Moon Book!

Sailor Moon, the anime, the manga, the fandom is everywhere.  It’s been with us for decades.  It’s influenced many people.  In North America she’s probably one of the most recognizable super-heroines.  There’s a lot to learn from the fandom – and you know how I like to learn!

I’m teaming up with a fellow professional, Bonnie Walling, to work on a book about the impact of Sailor Moon on women 18 and older in North America. We’re looking to interview women who were or are fans of Sailor Moon, and who felt it had a positive impact on their lives.  Our goal is to listen to people’s voices, and organize what we find into a book that will help people understand how the phenomena affected – and affects – these fans In addition, we’re doing historical and related research so the book can try and give people a grasp of the impact of the series over time, and provide a useful reference.

We’re looking for people to interview, so if you’d like to be interviewed or know people who would be, go on and let me know!

If you’re interviewed, then:

  • That you’re credited in the book – by your given name, nickname, alias, or whatever you prefer.
  • That you’ll get to see a draft of the book (electronically) before it goes out.
  • You’ll get a free e-copy of the book after publication in your preferred format (PDF, ePub, Kindle, etc.)

Drop us a line!

Respectfully,

Make It So: Let’s Be A Bunch Of Dicks

Book Shelf And More

One of my most recent acquisitions is the fascinating book “Dick’s Encyclopedia of Practical Receipts and Processes or How They Did it in the 1870’s.” Its a reprint of a book that was a guide to, well, everything. Making dyes, controlling insects, creating food, various measurements and so on. It’s basically a catalog of practical knowledge from the 19th century that people would need – and in a time where you lacked easy access to specialists and stores we take for granted.

It’s out of print sadly, but you can find used copies around the internet (I got mine at Amazon), or even find it online at Archive.org.

The value isn’t just in historical curiosity, though there’s plenty here. There’s real, practical advice here for all sorts of things that you can use if you’re a DIY type, a Maker, a cook, or a Cosplayer. Admittedly there’s also stuff that can kill you if you’re not careful, but I’m going to assume you’ll be cautious if you decide to start playing with acid or something.

So yeah, go buy this book.  Try and get it reprinted.  I’m already planning to use copies as a gift.

But more than that all this, it got me thinking.  We all know that’s dangerous.
