Steve’s Update 6/19/2017

(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com, www.SeventhSanctum.com, and Steve’s Tumblr)

It’s my weekly Scrum style standup for the audience.  Here’s what’s up – but first a note.

The last two months have been pretty intense, its all been books and writing for the most part.  I may be changing some of my plans around so it’s a bit more diverse.

So what have I done the last week?

  • Way With Worlds Minibook #1: All formatted and ready to go!  Pretty much I can launch it any time.
  • Way With Worlds Minibook #6: Writing away.  I’m going to try and block out time to just finish it, but not making any plans.
  • “A Bridge To The Quiet Planet:” The plot is outlined!  In fact the “draft” was better than I thought!
  • Social: I spoke at Hydra-Con, made lots of new contacts, and had a great time.  Promising new con!

What am I going to do this week:

  • Way With Worlds Minibook #1: Setting up marketing and getting publishing queued up!  You should see it later next week.
  • Way With Worlds Minibook #6:  Writing more of it.
  • “A Bridge To The Quiet Planet:” Working on Chapter #1.  I might try to blitz it this weekend, but the goal is a readable draft end of month.
  • Writing: The usual blogging, plus a few other things I want to write.

Challenges:

  • Some friends are moving, which might require some of my time.

The Countdown Begins: The Power Of Creative Paths!

This is it folks, the countdown to my first book on creativity, The Power Of Creative Paths!

The book is going to drop on Saturday the 30th.  I’m lining up some reviewers right now (and there’s a chance to get in on it) to help give people an idea of what’s in it from a reader’s viewpoint.  Only six more days!

So what’s in this book?

Basically, after years of working with Seventh Sanctum, I’d realized that creativity fit certain paths – ways we get to our “Big Ideas.”  Most people had one or two default paths, and not everyone knew how to get along with people different than them.  So I put all my findings into one book, a handy guide to help you get off of Creative Paths you’re a bit too stuck on and onto others, as well as how to work with people different than yourself creativity-wise.

A lot of this comes from my curious observation that the generators at Seventh Sanctum fit specific patterns, or certain little tweaks, trends, or sets of data seemed to inspire people surprisingly.  In time I began to see that these general observations fit specific trends, and formed a useful theory around it.

So hang in there, it’s almost arrived . . .

Activities For The Civic Geek: Access To Books

Get yourself, your club, or your convention involved in getting books to people in need.

We all love books, and we probably have pretty easy access to them. Not everyone else is so lucky. Maybe you and your fellow geeks want to help people get their hands on good books to enjoy, to improve their lives, and to widen their visions. Books are powerful tools.

You – or our club, convention, or fan group – could collect books for those in need. Have a day where everyone brings in their unused books and donations. Have a donation bin or drop box at your club or convention. Go to a local library sale, get a lot of cheap books, then donate them and help out two good causes at once. Or perhaps your library needs books and you donate right to them.

As for who you can help, there’s many organizations, local, national, or international that you can get involved in. Check out the resource sections below.
