Networking.
OK, you're tired of hearing about it. Every book you read on job searching mentions networking. Job counselors recommend networking. *I* recommend networking as do other bloggers.
Guess what? I like networking, but *I* am getting tired of hearing constantly how it's the key to getting an ideal job – because by now I know it. A lot of people know it.
So why is it we constantly are bombarded with the "networking message" despite the fact we've gotten it?
Let's not mince words.
The world economy is not in good shape, and the economy that affects you directly, dear readers (mostly US, North America, and UK judging by my records) has problems. The economic situation for many is at best a recession, and at most a growing catastrophe that still has yet to play out in our lives, bank accounts, and futures.
Yet I meet a lot of people who don't care, or don't pay attention. Some are in this state due to apathy or indifference. Others don't care out of ignorance. The worst are people who are very convinced they know what's going on, and of course are dreadfully wrong.
If you are not at least a bit worried about the economy you are either very well off or wrong. There's no middle ground here.
Allow me to express my most heartfelt invitation to those whose lives are not going as planned to try the ultimate cure-all for their problems. Your life may be depressing, you may not have the job you want, but I have the single, most powerful method in the world to cure your problems. This solution has worked for untold others throughout the ages and has a long, ancient lineage.
This most powerful technique is called "Getting off of your Butt."
