Steve’s update 11/4/2013

Well, where to begin.  It was a crazy week – and getting sick didn’t help.

Then I had to haul to Con-Volution for four events.  It was a little tough, but I made it, and had a blast.  The con’s a second-year convention that is run by a lot of experienced fen and is really focused on delivering – plenty of smart panels, practical ideas, and things people really would enjoy.  Met plenty of great folks and really networked.  There was a great consuite and a green room – really social, real service, free food, and everyone nice.  I’m definitely doing it again next year!

Troubleshot a few minor issues in the new Seventh Sanctum, so I just need to determine a launch time before Thanksgiving, configure a few things, and we’re good to go.  I just want time to watch it to make sure it’s running OK.

I’ve also fallen madly in love with Bootstrap.  I’m thinking of moving MuseHack to it so if you know a good bootstrap-related Word Press theme . . .

The new book has gone to the editors until end of month so I can take a bit of a break on that.  I was getting a bit tired frankly and need the rest.  Still targeting February 2014.  However I want to shift my publishing work so major books hit in November from now on.

Soon I’ll be planning for 2014.  We’ll see where that goes . . .

Seventh Sanctum Update 10/23/2013

Thanks for the feedback people sent in – and it turns out a few genertors DID have a formatting bug.  Any generator with a single dropdown-box control was apparently prone to a formatting malfunction.  I think I’ve corrected it at this time.  Be sure to take a look at the beta site, http://www.pageofgenerators.com/.

So now the next question is when to launch and I’m targeting November.  I just have to figure out when because things are a bit busy – and the holiday season makes it both easier and harder to do.

Now with this out of the way – unless someone finds anything else (do let me know) – my next concern more before/in the new year will be a community.  Disqus is fun and all for one-offs, but right now I’m debating a mailing list, a message board, and http://elgg.org/ which I saw at Trilobyte studios.  The Disqus comments are nice, but also have their issues and aren’t as intimate (I’m not planning to get rid of them).

Oh and new generators?  Yeah, I seriously have to revive some of my ideas it’s been ages since I did one – and the new framework makes them easier to do – and easier since I just reviewed a lot of code.

So thanks to everyone for the feedback and help.

Steve’s Update 10/20/2013

Well the Seventh Sanctum beta has been checked over . . . and no one found any bugs.  I guess I expected some, but I’m glad nothing showed up.  So now I have to figure a launch time, probably sometime in November.  We’ll see if my “fast-cutover” technique works . .

I’m also using Bootstrap to develop a new site for my books, but more of that later.

Well, I’ll be bugging my beta readers this week to see if they’ve got any feedback on the next book.  So if you’re one of them prepare to be annoyed.  I hope to have an announcement in November as well, but . . . you know that by now.

I’ll be continuing my posts on reporting, and am quite enjoying it.  It’s a bit different beyond my usual writing.  I’ll probably make a presentation out of it.

Geared up for Con-volution in two weeks.  Going be there?  Let me know!
